What Makes Tongits the Ultimate Filipino Card Game?
Tongits is not just a game – it is a cultural institution. For decades, Filipinos have gathered around tables at fiestas, barrios, and family get-togethers to play this fast-paced shedding card game. Now, with winph3, you can bring that same energy anywhere – during your commute, your lunch break, or late at night when the rest of the house is asleep.
The game is played with a standard 52-card deck among three players. The goal is simple: form combinations called melds – sets of three or four cards of the same rank, or sequences of three or more cards in the same suit – and get rid of all your cards before your opponents do. Sound easy? It is approachable enough for beginners but deep enough to keep experienced players engaged for hours.
At winph3, we offer multiple Tongits table variants so whether you're a casual player looking for a quick game or a serious grinder aiming for bigger pots, there's always a seat waiting for you.
The festive spirit of Filipino gaming – always more fun at winph3.

A Deeper Look at the Rules – Tongits the Pinoy Way
If you already know how to play from family game nights, you'll feel right at home on winph3. But for newer players, here's a quick rundown of how a standard Tongits hand works.
The dealer distributes 12 cards to each of the three players and keeps one extra card to start a draw pile. On your turn, you draw one card – either from the draw pile or, under specific conditions, from the discard pile – and then discard one card face-up. The round ends in three possible ways:
- Tongits! – A player empties their entire hand, declaring an immediate win and collecting the pot.
- Draw/Challenge (Sagot): – Any player can call a draw, triggering a showdown. The player with the lowest total deadwood (unmelded card points) wins.
- Burn Out: – The draw pile runs out before anyone calls Tongits or Sagot. Points are tallied and the lowest score wins.
Card values follow a simple system: number cards are worth their face value, face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are worth 10 points each, and the Ace is worth 1 point. Your goal is to minimize deadwood – so strategic melding and smart discards are the core skills that separate good players from great ones.
Watch the discard pile closely. If your opponent picks up a card you threw, they likely have a meld that suits that card. Adjust your strategy – avoid feeding them the cards they need, and consider calling Sagot before they complete a big combo.
Don't hoard high-value cards like Kings and Queens hoping to form a set. If the game goes to a draw, those unmelded face cards will cost you dearly. Know when to cut your losses and discard heavy cards early.
